Answer to some of the questions you have for Getaway Sailing Gold Coast

Do I need any boating experience?
No, your skipper will take responsibility for the boat and its handling. However you are welcome to try your hand at sailing.
What should I wear on board the Vessel?
As the sailing boat will be moving though the wind you should be prepared for the temperature to be less than standing at the marina. It is advisable to bring a wind jacket for summer and add a jumper and long pants in winter. We have a no shoes policy on board to save the teak decks from heels and the white fiberglass from marking. There are blankets on board for the cold ones.
What type of food should I bring and what is available on the boat?
Food and drink is BYO. It is best to bring food which is pre made and packed for easy eating with your hands. The vessel has a full range of cutlery, plates, cups ect. As well as a fridge for cool storage and stove for boiling water. We also have hot and cold fresh water onboard.
Is there a toilet onboard?
Yes There is a lockable private marine toilet (head) onboard. The “head” is clean and modern. With both hot and cold fresh water at the sink.
Is the charter suitable for children?
This is your call, I have found children under 10 do become “bored” with the sailing after 1 hour. I would suggest to take them on the South Stradbroke Island Discovery tour as this is a wonderful adventure for all ages and keeps the younger ones entertained.
Will I get Seasick?
I have not had anyone seasick when sailing inside the Broadwater. The waterways are very calm, with the only waves being if another vessel should pass us. If you are concerned you can purchase motion sickness tablets at your local chemist at around $10 a box of 20 tablets.
What is the parking arrangement at the marina?
There is plenty of free car parking available at the Runaway Bay Marina. The car park is open air and has many security cameras monitoring the area
Where do we meet?
The usual meeting place is Gate D at Runaway Bay Marina 247 Bayview st, Runaway Bay.

You can also enter "Getaway Sailing on the Gold Coast" into Google maps on your smart phone and have it direct you to the Marina

Whale watching open ocean Questions and Answers

Will I get seasick and what can I do to stop it?
It is best for people who are not normally boating to take motion sickness tablets for the voyage. These are easily found at your local chemist and not expensive. Follow the instructions on the box. Some motion sickness tablets are suggested to be taken the night before so purchase them at least the day before your whale watching experience.
How long is the whale watching tour?
We prefer to depart Runaway Bay Marina at or before 8am. For the full day tour depending on tides we are usually back at the marina around 1-2pm. You are always welcome to extend the tour of normally 5 hours on the day with an additional charge of $150/hour.
Is this tour suitable for children?
This Whale watching tour is conducted in ocean conditions. It is a very long day for a child. For you to have maximum benefit of this private sailing tour I would not bring children under 12. There would be a safety concern for young children who can not be seated for more than 1 hour at a time and a constant need of attention to keep a child safe at all times.
What is the parking arrangement at the marina?
There is plenty of free car parking available at the Runaway Bay Marina. The car park is open air and has many security cameras monitoring the area.
Where do we meet?
The usual meeting place is Gate D at Runaway Bay Marina 247Bayview st, Runaway Bay
What lens for my camera?
The best lens for whale watching is a 70-200mm or similar. A circular polarising filter is a must to keep the glare off the ocean under control.
